The Power of Positive Thinking – It’s Benefits and Challenges

In the constantly changing world, individuals are faced with challenges on a daily basis all round. In the wake of increasing globalization, individuals who are successful are those who overcome their challenges and make the best out of their limited resources. It is hence imperative for individuals who aim to succeed in their various endeavors to have the attitude of positive thinking. In as much as the idea of positive thinking has various benefits, there is the need for every individual to develop the habit of positive thinking.

In this article, the idea of positive thinking is critically evaluated to ascertain its benefits as well as identify ways that an individual can develop the idea of positive thinking. The article further deliberates on the concept of positive thinking and some challenges that are associated with positive thinking.

The Concept of Positive Thinking

Generally, positive thinking is a complemented attitude in every society. It encompasses a mental attitude that encourages an individual to aim for pleasing and acceptable outcome (Macleod and Moore, 2000). The idea of positive thinking includes a mental assertiveness that encourages a mindset, words and images that are conductive to growth, expansion and success. This concept encourages the individual to aim to be better in his or her field of endeavor. In view of this, a positive outlook is projected and hence requires that various actions are taken to ensure that a set of outlined objectives are achieved.

‘….Whatever the mind expects, it finds’ (Brady and Grenville-Cleave, 2017). This critical outlines the power associated with the human brain. As such, providing positive information to the brain can subsequently encourage anybody to be charged to accomplish a unique task. Irrespective of the various challenges that are expected to be faced, it is imperative that starting with a positive thinking approach leads to a significant amount of the task being completed.

Encouraging an individual to think positively is the mantra of several motivational speakers (Guay et al, 2017). The idea of positive thinking has also been targeted at people who feel down and beaten by life’s challenges. This is aimed at encouraging them to make a move from their current position of failure, regret and depression to a higher and better position. This also implies that positive thinking is an effective tool that helps build the ego, morale and edge of people in such circumstances. It tends to be an effective tool to encourage others.

Project completion seems to be daunting task in any academic setting. It requires the encouragement of positive thinking to help complete a project in progress in various areas of personal and professional life (Conger, 2017). Not only does positive thinking remind an individual about the expected achievements of their projects in progress but also helps outline the worth of every project being undertaken. The idea of positive thinking helps overcome any challenges faced during an ongoing project.

An individual’s mood and behavior are affected by their mind (Macleod and Moore, 2000). Positive thinking is hence poised at making an individual feel good and be in a better mood. Positive thinking helps improve an individual’s health conditions and helps avoid suicidal intentions. Thinking positive of any situation helps overcome such thoughts. In recent times, the number of reported cases of suicide resulting from stress and depression has significantly increased.

Negative thoughts tend to compound the effects of stress and depression and hence results in the alternative of suicide. Positive thoughts have the power to help an individual to avert any situation by encouraging him or her work at overcoming the problem (Brady and Grenville-Cleave, 2017). In many cases, interviewers have rejected competent prospective job applicants because of the lack of positive thinking. The idea of positive thinking goes a long way for employers to identify competent and strong – willed employees who have the company at heart. Employees with positive thinking are believed to be assets since they are readily available to face challenges and provide alternatives to solving problems and challenges that arise in the course of work.

Having positive thoughts is a quality that successful leaders have been attributed with. Positive thinking helps leaders foresee future challenges and devise strategies to overcome them. With the tool of positive thinking, leaders can encourage their followers through challenging times to enable them achieve any set of objectives that are expected of them. Positive thinking also has the ability to build a formidable team to achieve any tasks set. Through difficult times, team members can use the tool of positive thinking to encourage themselves to forge ahead.

Positive thinking can be used effectively to change several bad habits especially with pessimism (Conger, 2017). This helps promote the idea of ensuring that everything is possible in the world especially in the wake of increasing globalization. The younger generation tends to benefit from the idea of positive thinking especially in the increasing access to information. Whilst access to information tends to identify and deliver both positive and negative information through the increasing use of the internet and social media, positive thinking positions any individual to make decisions that provides positive results. Positive thinking equips the individual the ability to make decisions that helps improve their productivity, growth and development. It is imperative for individuals to be positive to help them grow and develop.

Positive thinking goes further to impact the use of resources and safeguard the environment (Guay et al, 2017). Positive thinking helps the individual develop a culture and habit of protection. In view of this, individuals can contribute to making societies they live in a better place to be by ensuring high level of security and cleanliness for all to enjoy. In making the world a better place to live in, it starts with the attitude of positive thinking. ‘Do we think positively in our everyday actions and inactions?’ This is a multi – million question every individual must ponder over on a daily basis in their bid to equip themselves and make a memorable change to their generation.

Positive thinking has several benefits that cannot be overlooked. It is an effective tool positions any individual to impact generations. The article aimed to evaluate the benefits as well as identify ways that an individual can develop the idea of positive thinking. The article further deliberated on the concept of positive thinking.

Positive thinking molds an individual to be better and encourages leadership skills. Through positive thinking, an individual can impact his or her generation. It is evident that positive thinking is a unique tool that equips individuals to be generational thinkers and successful leaders.
