International Research Conference 2024

  • DATE: 30th - 31st October 2024LOCATION: LSME

11th LSME International Research Conference on “Re-Visioning Practice in Education, Health Care and Business amidst Global Challenges”

Welcome to Conference 2024!

The London School of Management Education (LSME) is delighted to announce that our 2024 International Conference, the 11th in the series going back to 2015, will this year return to a face to face delivery format, and will take place on Wednesday 30th and Thursday 31st October at our flagship campus in London Borough of Redbridge, East London.

As in previous years, the event will feature keynote contributions from eminent and internationally renowned guest speakers, a strong focus on presentations from researchers active in subject areas aligned with the conference themes, opportunities for networking and building profile in a highly prominent and vital area and workshops designed to strengthen international awareness of issues and sharing of good practice.

We are, as ever, keen to encourage the involvement of participants of all types, but in particular we welcome contributions from researchers active in exploring the main conference subject matter and subsidiary themes. This includes a special emphasis on early-career researchers as well as anticipating papers from experienced and established research colleagues across the globe.

Since the inception of the Conference series in 2015, we have built up a growing community of supporters, amongst whom we anticipate there will be a good deal of interest in taking part in our 2024 event, both in the sharing of original research findings and as delegates attending Conference sessions. All will receive our traditional warm, friendly and open welcome to the community, and we hope to make new connections, establish new horizons and create new opportunities for powerful and effective ideas to take root as our global community of friends grows through this event.

2024 will be a difficult year for education, healthcare, and business. The continuing conflicts in Ukraine, Gaza, South Sudan, Yemen and elsewhere are leaving a terrible legacy. The international PISA study reveals a depressing decline in global educational achievement, despite years of policy changes. The Institute for Fiscal Studies has reported a massive drop in educational funding in the UK. The aftereffects of Covid-19 continue to be felt across all sectors internationally. Education, health and social care have been underfunded for many years, and are in need of imaginative, research-based innovations to maintain and improve services. Meanwhile, business must respond to the challenges of decarbonisation, increase the resilience of the bio-economy and upskill its workforce.

LSME has always promoted Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI), as an effective approach to diagnose and address problems in education, health and social care, and business management. This year’s conference is intended to focus on what research and researchers, in collaboration with practitioners, can do to rebuild education, health services and social care for a sustainable future. The gap between practitioners, such as teachers, nurses and social workers, and researchers has grown as research becomes increasingly fragmented and inward looking. In business, there is a need for visionary thinking to match the possibilities of production to the needs of society.

The LSME International Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) conference series has evolved steadily since its inception, and now boasts of an impressive international pedigree. We have developed a strong reputation for the inclusive approach for research at all levels and capabilities, with an open emphasis on the support for early career researchers. We welcome contributions from a wide range of perspectives including cultural, economic, social and organisational views and encourages all participants to take an active and ethical stance towards the research process.

Our long-standing alignment with the tenets of Responsible Research and Innovation agenda provides an overarching mission for the conference, namely to:

  • Promote social justice, inclusion and equity
  • Increase the influence of research on policy and practice in key impact areas
  • Increase the commitment of participants in research via active involvement in all stages of an open, principled and inclusive process of investigation and dissemination of findings.

These principles are applied equally to all participants, including researchers, academic observers, delegates and the wider communities touched by research projects explored in the conference.

Throughout the Conference series since 2015 to date, we have sought to:

  • Provide an inclusive platform fostering an active community of researchers collaborating on issues of social significance and societal concern
  • Advance the principles and practices of Responsible Research and Innovation (RRI) in support of researchers at all stages of their research journey
  • Provide an open and accessible mechanism for sharing creative contributions to the research agenda across a range of subject matter and discipline areas
