COURSE OVERVIEW

By studying these programmes, students develop the core leadership and operational skills which today’s organisations need. Students gain an overview of key business concepts, alongside the ability to apply this knowledge to real-world business situations. Through case studies, engaging projects and group work, we will take you closer to the dynamic challenges faced by today’s managers.

Successful completion of the Level 4 HNC Diploma which has a course duration of one year, allows students to gain direct entry to the second year of the Level 5 HND Diploma at London School of Management Education.

The HND Diploma in Business can be studied as a stand-alone programme or can form part of a three-year degree programme at various UK Universities. Successful completion of this programme allows direct entry to a one-year top-up Honours Degree.

Course Aims / Objectives

Qualification aims include:

  • Providing opportunities to acquire skills and knowledge which are transferable and will enable learners to meet changing circumstances.
  • Providing opportunities for learners to gain a nationally recognised  qualifications to gain employment as managers.
  • Providing opportunities for learners to focus on the development of the major key skills as well as the wider key skills in context, such as improving own learning and performance and working with others.

Entry Requirements

Students who are currently undertaking this qualification had:

  • A minimum of BTEC level 3 qualification in Business
  • A GCE Advanced Level profile that demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject or adequate performance in more than one GCE subject. This profile is likely to be supported by GCSE grades at A* to C (or equivalent)
  • Other related level 3 qualifications
  • Related work experience

And are least 18 years of age and passed an initial assessment test (Level 1 in literacy and numeracy with in-depth proficiency in academic writing) at LSME.

English Proficiency

The entire programme is taught in English and applicants have demonstrated their ability to speak and write in English proficiently.

Course Structure

The Level 4 HNC Diploma is made up of 8 units, of which four are compulsory. Focusing on progressively enhancing students’ knowledge of business and management, the level 5 HND Diploma is made up of 16 complementary units. Particular emphasis is placed on ensuring that students are able to effectively apply their knowledge to relevant practical situations.

Course Duration

The duration for this course is two years.

HNC: One Year

Students must complete eight units to get this qualification (four core and four optional units).

HND: Two Years

On successful completion of the Pearson BTEC HNC Programme, students will then have to complete eight more units to achieve the full Pearson BTEC Level 5 HND Diploma in Business.

Mode of Delivery and Assessment

The Pearson HND in Business delivery includes; lectures, face-to-face training days, one to one tutorials, discussions, case study discussions, research work, group work, among others. All students are guided at every step towards achieving their goals.

Students are assessed using centre devised written assignments/ reports, presentations, both individual and group.

Moderation

In order to make the assessment as fair as possible, a system of moderation has been put in place. LSME undertakes stringent assessment activities and internal moderation, whilst Pearson periodically undertakes an external moderation exercise. The final results are then presented to the LSME Board of Examiners for final approval. The final grades are then entered on the Pearson portal for final certification.

Post Qualification

On successful completion of the level 5 Higher National Diploma, students can develop their careers in the business sector through entering employment, continuing existing employment, linking with the appropriate professional body, committing to continuing professional development (CPD) and progressing to university.

The level 5 Higher National Diploma is recognised by Higher Education providers as meeting admission requirements to many relevant business-related courses, for example:

  • BSc (Hons) in Business and Management
  • BA and BSc (Hons) in Business Studies
  • BSc (Hons) in International Management
