Job Title:  Access and Progression Officer (Maternity Cover)

Job Purpose:  London School of Management Education (LSME) is a Higher Education provider based in East London with niche areas of Business Management, Health and Social Care and Teacher Training.  LSME is a forward-thinking, fast-paced, highly innovative college looking to build a creative and competent staff team. It is currently seeking a suitable candidate to implement LSME’s Access and Participation Plan with a major focus on developing partnerships and collaborations with relevant employees, Schools, Colleges and other key stakeholders. This post is currently announced as a maternity cover; however, based on the candidate’s performance, the post can be extended beyond one year.

Reports to: Head of Access and Participation 

Key job responsibilities – Widening Access and Participation

  • Assist in LSME outreach programmes for targeted schools, colleges and Job-Centres, partner organisations coordinating and managing academic support, mentoring, career guidance, off-campus events, seminars, workshops etc.
  • Work with the Admissions team to implement contextualised admission processes, and encourage more engagement in the uptake of higher education.
  • Liaise and coordinate with internal contacts such as academic and non-academic staff,  senior managers, admissions officer, programme leaders and the marketing team.
  • Liaise with external contacts such as members of the public, school and college tutors and advisers, careers officers, as well as continuously form new links and memberships with government and non-governmental organisations and employers
  • Provide comprehensive advice to applicants of all programmes of study offered at the LSME from groups currently under-represented in higher education and LSME using seminars and workshops.
  • Work with employers in organising career fairs and employer engagement events.
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of government policies related to Access and Participation in the Higher Education sector,
  • Collect feedback on activities for monitoring and evaluation of the projects.
  • Assist with the analysis of feedback questionnaires, information and statistics to underscore and implement future AP strategies.
  • Prepare internal and external Impact Reports
  • Update and maintain AP Database.

General

  • To undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade, and/or hours of work, as may reasonably be required of the applicant.

Qualifications

  • A degree in education, public relations, social sciences or relevant and equivalent qualification

Experience and Training:

  • 3 years experience of working in an education-related field or an institution –  Preferable.
  • Experience of widening participation and working with young people  –  Preferable.
  • Experience of scheduling, planning, organising and evaluating events and activities  –  Preferable.
  • Excellent IT skills, including word processing, spreadsheets and databases.
  • Willingness to undertake training.

Delivering academic and service excellence:

  • Understanding of GCSE and A’ level curriculum and knowledge of post-16 qualifications.
  • Understanding of the issues relating to educational inclusion and progression.
  • Ability of public speaking.
  • Attention to detail and accurate reporting.

Managing self and inspiring others:

  • Ability to work under pressure, plan and prioritise own workload to meet deadlines.
  • Highly motivated and able to work with limited supervision.
  • Set an example for punctuality, teamwork and quality of delivery.

Working together:

  • Excellent communication skills.

Organisational and stakeholder awareness:

  • Good management and organisational skills.

It is currently seeking a suitable candidate to support implementation of LSME’s Access and Participation Plan with a major focus on working with our partner secondary and sixth form schools in supporting attainment raising of students with barriers to learning. Candidate will work with Access and Participation team and external partners in meeting the targets. 

Reports to: Head of Access and Participation
