LSME Hosts Inspiring Open Day for Year 12 Students from Sixth Form Partner School

LSME hosted an engaging Open Day event on Wednesday, 14^th May 2025, exclusively for Year 12 students from a partner Sixth Form School in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham. This strategic initiative, aligned with our Access and Participation Plan, aimed to broaden horizons and promote higher education pathways among prospective students from diverse backgrounds.

With the participation of the enthusiastic students and dedicated staff members, the event provided a dynamic platform to explore university options, college life, and available support systems. The event was designed to inspire and inform students who may benefit from increased exposure to college and university opportunities, helping to break down barriers and foster positive perceptions of higher education.

Highlights of the Open Day included welcoming speech from our Head of Access and Participation, setting an inspiring tone for the event. Students and staff engaged in an informative presentation on LSME courses and available student finance options. The day also featured an exciting taster session with student engagement activities, providing hands-on insights into college life, complemented by a short, motivational talk about college experiences delivered by one of our Student Ambassadors. To give students a real sense of higher education, a guided tour of College facilities was offered, showcasing the vibrant campus environment. The event concluded with refreshments and networking opportunities, creating a relaxed atmosphere for meaningful discussions and connections among students and staff.

This event underscores LSME’s commitment to widening participation and ensuring equitable access to higher education. By providing tailored activities and vital information, we aim to motivate students to consider college/university as a viable and rewarding option for their future.
