LSME Induction: January 2017

LSME Induction

The January 2017 LSME induction event was organised for new learners for the Diploma in Education and Training (DET), HND in Health and Social Care and the HND Business qualifications. The ceremony was attended by eligible learners and all members of staff. It was a half they event, the first part of a two week long induction process and was aimed at   introducing learners to the institution. Presenting the ceremony, Dr Dolly Jackson-Sillah introduced the items on the agenda and all key personnel to the inductees.

In his welcome address, Executive Director, Dr Ravi Kumar highlighted the key achievements of the institution, QAA review, SLC funding. The Research agenda, academic conferences, student engagement, employability and the current regulatory requirements were key subjects in the welcome address.

The Principal of the institution, Dr Sarita Parhi also addressed the new learners on the academic standards of the College. She stressed the importance of assignment submission deadlines, attendance and the need for learners to be familiar with all policies and procedures and in particular understand all responsibilities of students and the College as articulated in the Students Charter.

Other areas covered included an introduction to the Welfare and Pastoral Care provision. The College rules and regulations, Health and Safety arrangements, attendance and punctuality, assignment submission deadlines and other relevant information related to their chosen programmes.

This induction process will continue for the next two weeks for teaching of essential study skills such as Research, Time Management, Plagiarism, Academic Referencing, Understanding Course Specifications and Assignment Briefs and VLE Induction after which a feedback for the process will be obtained from the learners.
