Martin McAreavey has a broad background in business and management gained in a range of international, European and UK organisations. Following the award of an MBA from Durham in 1991, he worked for NCR and AT&T on trans-Atlantic projects in retail banking, international trade, technology management and consumer engagement, building compelling business cases for strategic investments and industry-level change. He has extensive experience of setting up and managing new business enterprises, and has practical knowledge gained from applying management and leadership theory to address business issues. Recentlyhe has worked at prominent North West universities and colleges, gaining valuable insights into the rapidly changing landscape of Higher Education in the UK.
His research interests include undergraduate literacy, and applications of strategic thinking and planning within the College-Based Higher Education (CBHE) sector. Martin is working towards a PhD at Lancaster University, studying within the Centre for Higher Education Research and Evaluation (CHERE). He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and intends to run regular Employer Engagement events to ensure teaching practice is informed by the needs of local and regional employers.
